Blog Post #4

Hi and welcome to my weekly blog post!  I know I missed last sunday’s blog post, I have been dealing with an infection and trying to find the right medication regiment to help me feel better.  After about two weeks of not feeling like myself and having a difficult time enjoying my favorite activities, I am finally getting back to ‘normal’, or at least what that looks like for me.  Is it just me or does anyone else have a hard time staying positive and in the present moment when you don’t feel good and just want to stay in bed all day, because that’s where your comfort zone is at currently? I feel like we are expected to always remain positive and constantly live in the present moment, even when we aren’t in the mood or are having a bad day/week, but the truth is that always being positive even when we feel down and sad isn’t going to automatically fix how we feel, it just makes us feel worse.  When we pretend to be doing good and tell everyone that we’re okay, it doesn’t mean we are and often leads to more sadness, because we’re not only telling everyone else a false statement, but we're telling ourselves, especially our mind that it's all okay, when we know deep down it’s not.  I have always struggled with communicating how I feel and what I’m thinking and up until the last few years I didn’t have as many coping mechanisms as I do now to help me when I’m not feeling like myself.  When I feel overwhelmed and need to relax and unwind I do a short meditation session,  if I am upset at what someone said to me, I take a moment and walk away from the situation to calm myself and reflect on what was said, when I need to get my thoughts out, but can’t express them verbally, I take a moment and write them down, so that at least they aren’t bottled up in my mind.  Whether you are going through something similar to my experience or dealing with an entirely different situation, it is important that you find coping mechanisms that work for you, because not all coping mechanisms work for everyone, so try and be patient while finding your rhythm.
