Blog Post #4

Hi and welcome to my weekly blog post!  I know I missed last sunday’s blog post, I have been dealing with an infection and trying to find the right medication regiment to help me feel better.  After about two weeks of not feeling like myself and having a difficult time enjoying my favorite activities, I am finally getting back to ‘normal’, or at least what that looks like for me.  Is it just me or does anyone else have a hard time staying positive and in the present moment when you don’t feel good and just want to stay in bed all day, because that’s where your comfort zone is at currently? I feel like we are expected to always remain positive and constantly live in the present moment, even when we aren’t in the mood or are having a bad day/week, but the truth is that always being positive even when we feel down and sad isn’t going to automatically fix how we feel, it just makes us feel worse.  When we pretend to be doing good and tell everyone that we’re okay, it do...

Fun Facts for the Week #3

Word of the Week:   Camouflage Did you Know?:   Camouflage  reached the English language during World War 1, when the art of concealing objects from the enemy was considerably developed.  It is of French origin, a derivative of the verb camoufler ‘disguise,’ which came from Italian camuffare ‘disguise, trick.’ Source:  Dictionary of Word Origins by John Ayto As you start another busy week, remember not to try and blend in or conceal yourself, but stand out in the crowd and don’t be afraid to stand up for what you believe in.  Don’t let anyone try to get you down for being your true self, you are important and meant to stand out.

Poem of the Week: I am not sure who Has made you feel insignificant, But I can assure you No matter how you have been made to feel, Your voice deserves to be heard. Your words are meant to be felt. And the life that comes out of you Is unique to you and no one else. You may not have the next few years figured out, And there are times when you want to speak up But you do not know how. But When the words do finally come And you find the courage to open up, Your story will not be too much. Source:   All Along You Were Blooming: thoughts for boundless living by Morgan Harper Nichols

Blog Post #3 November 9, 2025 Hello and welcome to my weekly blog. This week I wanted to change things up and not only discuss my journey with PNES, but also talk about a topic I feel like a lot of us struggle to understand or identify with.  The topic for this week that I am talking about is individuality or being authentic to who you are meant to be.  This topic is important to me for several reasons, but mostly because I have struggled for years to figure out who I am and where my place in society is.  Until recently I didn’t really understand my unique, one of a kind identity or that we’re all built differently and should express our individualism.   To get us started on the topic of individuality or being “one of a kind”, I want to begin with “what defines someone’s individualism?”.  Is there really one singular definition to explain what individuality looks like or is it based on a multitude of factors.  I believe that everyone is uniq...

Fun Facts for the week #2

Word of the Week- Asparagus Did you know?  The word asparagus comes ultimately from Greek asparagos (a word related to the Greek verb spargan ‘swell,’ to the Latin verb spargere ‘scatter’ - ultimate source of English sparse, disperse, and aspersions - and also to English spark), and has over the past 150 years or returned to the full Latin form, asparagus, in which it was originally borrowed by English.   In the intervening centuries, however, it went through several metamorphoses: in the 16th century, the truncated Medieval Latin variant sparagus was current (it also occurs in one isolated example from a book of Anglo-Saxon remedies of around 1000AD); from then until the 18th century an anglicized version, sperage, was used; and in the 17th century folk etymology (the process by which an unfamiliar word is assimilated to one more familiar) turned asparagus into sparrowgrass.   This gradually died out during the 19th century, but the abbreviation grass remains curr...

Poem of the week: Fall in Love People should fall in love more.  Fall in love with the way your coffee swirls as soon as you pour the milk in.  Fall in love with the look your dog gives you when you wake up.  Fall in love with the rare moment when your cat doesn’t ignore you.  Fall in love with the person who tells you to have a good day.  Fall in love with the waiter who gives you extra chili fries.  Fall in love with sweaters in winter and cold lemonade in summer.  Fall in love with the moment your head hits the pillow.  Fall in love with talking to someone until 4 a.m. Fall in love with the days you can hit the snooze button over and over again.  Fall in love when a lover stares at you for five hours.  Fall in love with the stars when they look at you.  Fall in love with the sound of someone breathing.  Fall in love with the bus if it’s on time or if the train comes early.  Fall in love with everything possible. ...

Blog Post # 2  Sunday, November 2 2025 Hi and welcome to another weekly blog post, where I will be talking about my daily life with PNES.  After last week’s (Sunday October 26) blog post, I have decided that this week and each blog post to follow, won't just focus on the positive moments and make it seem like everything has been smooth sailing for the last 4 years, but it will dig deep into topics that I have struggled with and overcome along this journey of mine with PNES. Over the last 4 years, I have not only struggled with PNES, but I have been working on improving my anxiety and depression, which both contribute to my seizure disorder.  When my anxiety and depression are in full swing and trying to bring me down, I am more vulnerable to having a seizure.  The more anxious I am, the longer and harder it is for me to come out of an episode.  I have had to learn in the last four years how to manage my anxiety and depression in order to keep my seizu...
